Sustainability @ Eastwood

Our School Story

Here at Eastwood Primary School and Deaf Facility we have developed a wonderful learning environment with new state of the art facilities. Our outdoor spaces are vibrant learning and play areas, constructed using reclaimed materials and with an emphasis on planting local native species. We have a wetlands ecosystem running through the central area which collects, filters and stores rainwater. Our kitchen garden produces edible foods for use in the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program. We also house our friendly school chickens in the purpose-built chook shed and connecting fruit orchard. Our dedicated parents have also provided the students with an Indigenous Garden area “Wominjeka” which means welcome.

In 2016 Eastwood gained funding to complete the ResourceSmart Schools modules. This initiative is overseen by Sustainability Victoria and is also supported by CERES. We are currently working on our Core Module as outlined below. We are also focusing on waste issues in the school and have started work on the Waste Module. Eastwood is a Healthy Eating school and we encourage our students to pack a Nude Food lunch.
